Melbourne Teacher's Night

IMA staff members, Kym Wilton and Sherene Hassan, were delighted to host teacher's from a diverse range of schools at this year's first IMA Teachers Night on Monday, 20 June. They gave a tour of the Museum, with a special focus on curriculum alignments. Many of the teachers had not visited the IMA previously, and were amazed with the possibilities a visit to the IMA would bring to their school. Those who had visited before were enthralled by the new developments in the galleries. Please contact us if you would like us to organise an excursion for your students, or professional development for your staff. A reminder that teachers with a VIT registration can visit the IMA anytime for free!

Introducing Nahla Baroudi

As-salamu alaykum (peace be upon you), I take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new South Australia State Education Manager at the Islamic Museum of Australia. It is my endeavour to facilitate the educational and cultural experiences of students and teachers to have a better understanding of the values and contributions of Muslims to Australian society.

New exhibition opening 24 March

Internationally acclaimed multimedia artist, Narjis Mirza, presents Hayakal al Noor (Bodies of Light); a sensorial, immersive and transcendent installation. Opening on 24 March, this interactive installation takes inspiration from the medieval Islamic philosophy of illumination. Our Visiting Exhibitions Gallery will be transformed into a cocoon of animated calligraphy, projection, textiles, subtle fragrances and sounds, where you will be guided to ponder beyond the visible and the tangible.
